A belt feeder's job — controlled, steady extraction from a hopper — is different from a belt conveyor's transfer duty, but ENZAC builds both on the same underlying platform and configuration options. Choosing the right one for a feeding application comes down to your material's bulk characteristics and how much elevation, if any, you need at the discharge point.
Flat Belt Feeder
A flat belt, limited to roughly 5° incline, is the simplest configuration for horizontal extraction directly beneath a hopper. Where the feeder only needs to pull material out and hand it to the next piece of equipment at roughly the same level, flat is the lowest-complexity option.
Where it fits: Horizontal discharge with no elevation requirement, free-flowing to moderately cohesive materials.
Troughed Belt Feeder
A troughed belt (18–22° incline capability) holds a higher cross-sectional load per belt width, which matters when the feeder needs to handle higher-tonnage discharge without going to a wider belt. For high-capacity hopper discharge — approaching the top end of the 500 t/hr range — troughing is usually the more practical configuration than a wider flat belt.
Where it fits: High-tonnage bulk discharge, aggregates, minerals, coarse granular material.
Inclined Belt Feeder
Where the feeder needs to both extract material and lift it to a higher discharge point — feeding an elevated crusher, screen, or process inlet — an inclined configuration (20–30°) combines the feeding and elevation function in one piece of equipment rather than needing a separate feeder and elevating conveyor.
Where it fits: Hopper discharge that needs to feed into elevated downstream equipment.
Cleated / Chevron Belt Feeder
For steep-incline applications up to 45°, cleats or chevron patterns on the belt prevent material rollback that a plain belt can't hold at that angle.
Where it fits: Space-constrained layouts needing steep-angle discharge and lift in one step.
What Doesn't Change Across Configurations
All four run on the same VFD-controlled drive giving 0.1–3.5 m/sec speed range for rate control, in belt widths from 300–2,000 mm, with frame material (mild steel epoxy-painted, SS304, SS316, hot-dip galvanised) and belt material (rubber, PVC, food-grade PU, SS mesh, anti-static) selected to match your material and environment.
Getting the Choice Right
The decision comes down to whether your discharge point needs elevation (favouring inclined or cleated) or not (favouring flat or troughed), and whether tonnage favours a troughed profile over a flat one. Getting this wrong at spec stage usually means either an underpowered feeder for the actual tonnage, or unnecessary incline capability paid for and never used.
