Installation and Commissioning
Rotary valve installation covers structural mounting into the process line, drive coupling and motor connection, and — for blow-through or pipeline-integrated valve types — pressure-rated sealing against the pneumatic conveying line it sits within. This last point matters more than it might seem: a valve rated to 21 PSI that's installed with a compromised seal won't hold that rating in practice. Confirm your supplier's installation scope includes seal verification and, where applicable, a pressure test before the line is considered commissioned.
Commissioning should also verify actual throughput against your material — not the catalogue volume-per-revolution figure. Since real throughput follows T = 0.06 × V × N × Y × R (volume per revolution, rotor speed, fill efficiency, and bulk density), fill efficiency in particular only shows up once the valve is running your actual material. Ask for this to be verified during commissioning, not assumed from the spec sheet.
Rotor Wear Is the Central After-Sales Conversation
Of everything on a rotary valve, rotor wear is the part most directly tied to your material's abrasiveness and your ongoing support needs. Before you order:
- Confirm rotor type is matched to wear expectations — for abrasive materials, ENZAC's Replaceable Blade rotor configuration is specifically designed so wear-part replacement is cost-effective rather than requiring a full rotor swap. If your material is abrasive and you were quoted a fixed-vane rotor without this being discussed, ask why.
- Confirm coating options were considered — tungsten, Teflon, ceramic, or hard chrome interior coatings extend service life against abrasive materials and reduce sticking on cohesive ones. This is a decision that affects total cost of ownership more than initial price.
- Confirm shaft sealing type — packing gland versus air purge, with air purge generally preferable where product contamination from seal wear is a concern.

- Spare parts — rotor blades/vanes, shaft seals, and bearings are the parts most likely to need periodic replacement. Confirm stock availability and lead time, especially for your specific bore size and rotor configuration.
- Service and maintenance — scheduled inspection catches rotor wear and sealing degradation before they cause a pressure-loss failure or contamination event. Confirm what's available and breakdown response time.
- Custom bore lead times — if your application needs a non-standard bore, confirm the lead time upfront (typically longer than standard 150–600mm sizing) so it doesn't surprise you mid-project.

For abrasive applications specifically, ask what wear rate is considered normal versus a warranty-covered defect — this distinction should be defined before installation, not argued after a failure.
