An FIBC discharger's main job is getting material out of the bag cleanly and consistently — so most faults show up as either poor flow, dust escaping the enclosure, or a mechanical issue with the bag support and massaging function. Here are the five most common, what to check first, and when it's time to escalate.
1. Reduced Dust Extraction Performance
If dust is visibly escaping the discharge enclosure that previously contained it, check filter condition first — a loaded or clogged filter is the most common cause and the easiest to fix. Confirm extraction fan operation and that enclosure seals and access doors are properly closed and undamaged. A gradual decline in extraction performance over weeks usually means filter media is due for replacement, not a fan fault.
2. Poor Material Flow Through the Outlet Valve
Bridging or ratholing inside the bag is a material behavior issue, not necessarily an equipment fault — check whether the bag massager (if fitted) is actually cycling and applying adequate pressure to break up compacted material. If flow was fine previously and has degraded, inspect the outlet valve seal for wear or buildup restricting the opening.
3. Bag Massager Not Cycling or Underperforming
Check pneumatic supply pressure to the massager first, since a slow leak or partially restricted air line reduces massager force gradually enough to go unnoticed until flow problems appear. If air supply is confirmed adequate, inspect massager plate or paddle components for wear.
4. Outlet Valve Seal Leaking Material
A leaking outlet valve seal is almost always a wear-item replacement, not a repair. Seals wear faster with abrasive materials and frequent bag changes. If leakage has developed gradually, this is a scheduled maintenance item rather than an emergency — but don't defer it indefinitely, since it worsens.
5. Bag Support Frame or Hoist Mechanism Issues (for Hoist and Forklift-Mounted Stations)
For hoist-station configurations, check hoist chain/cable condition and limit switch operation if bag positioning is inconsistent. For forklift-mounted piercing valve stations, verify the piercing mechanism engages fully and seals against the bag spout — a partial engagement is a common source of both flow problems and dust leakage at the connection point.
When to Call for Support
The checks above resolve most day-to-day discharger issues. Escalate when: dust extraction performance doesn't recover after a filter change, the outlet valve or massager needs a part replacement you don't have in stock, or your discharger includes a weighing function that needs calibration verification.

Dust extraction filters, massager components, and outlet valve seals are the parts most likely to need replacement over a discharger's service life.
