Robot brand and platform (gantry). ABB, FANUC, FUJI, and KUKA sit at different price points and have different service network footprints in Malaysia — confirm which platform your supplier is proposing and what local support looks like for that specific brand.
Gripper complexity. A gripper customised for a single, consistent product costs less than one designed to handle multiple product types or irregular shapes (drums, tyres, solar panels) reliably.
Layer pattern programming. More complex, multi-option layer patterns require more programming and commissioning time than a single fixed pattern.
Installation Scope and Timeline
Installation covers structural mounting, robot/arm calibration, gripper commissioning and testing against your actual product, layer pattern programming, and integration with upstream conveying and downstream wrapping equipment. Ask for a realistic timeline broken into fabrication/procurement, delivery, mechanical installation, robot commissioning, and load testing with your actual product — not a single lump-sum estimate.
Confirming Throughput Holds Up on Your Product
A palletizer's rated speed (up to 40 bags/min for high-level) is a ceiling figure under ideal conditions — actual sustained throughput depends on product weight relative to rated payload, layer pattern complexity, and upstream feed consistency. Confirm your supplier has sized the specific configuration against your actual product and required throughput, and that commissioning includes a sustained run test, not just a single-cycle demonstration.
After-Sales Support to Confirm Before You Sign
- Spare parts — gripper components, drive/actuator parts, and (for gantry systems) robot-specific replacement parts are what's most likely to need attention over service life. Confirm stock availability and lead time — particularly for the specific robot brand if gantry.
- Service and maintenance — scheduled preventive maintenance including gripper condition, alignment checks, and robot servicing extends service life. Confirm response time for a breakdown callout.
- Retrofit and upgrade — for aging palletizers already on-site, confirm whether gripper upgrades, layer pattern reprogramming for new products, or robot component upgrades are available.
