A sieve separator is mechanically simple compared to most bulk handling equipment, which means most faults trace back to a short list of causes. Here are the five most common, what to check first, and when it's a retrofit conversation instead of a repair.

1. Mesh Blinding (Reduced Throughput or Material Backing Up)

The most common fault by far: mesh openings clogging with fine, oily, or sticky particles, cutting effective throughput even though the machine is running normally. If this is happening repeatedly rather than as an occasional cleaning issue, it usually means the screening principle doesn't match the material — a standard rotary vibrating screen (DY) running a fine or oily material is a common mismatch that ultrasonic screening (DYC) is specifically built to solve. Recurring blinding is a specification issue, not a maintenance issue.

2. Reduced Screening Accuracy

Oversize material passing through the mesh, or good product being rejected, usually points to mesh damage (tears, stretched openings) or a mesh size that no longer matches your current particle size distribution if your material or upstream process has changed. Check mesh condition first — it's the most likely single point of failure affecting accuracy.

3. Excessive Vibration or Noise

Unusual vibration, noise, or a change in vibration pattern typically traces back to worn vibration motor components, loose mounting hardware, or an imbalanced screen deck. Left unaddressed, vibration issues accelerate wear on the frame and drive components, so this is worth checking promptly rather than working around.

4. Slower Cycle Time Than Rated

Throughput running below the model's rated effective screening area usually comes down to one of: material moisture or stickiness higher than the unit was speced for, partial mesh blinding reducing effective open area, or feed rate inconsistency from upstream equipment. Isolate which of these applies before assuming a mechanical fault — the screen itself is rarely the root cause of a gradual slowdown.

5. Material Not Discharging Cleanly

Oversize material or rejects not clearing the screen properly usually points to deck angle, vibration amplitude settings, or material buildup at the discharge point rather than a fault in the screening mechanism itself. This is usually a setup or settings check, not a parts replacement.

When to Call for Support vs. When to Consider a Retrofit

The checks above cover routine wear and setup issues. If your screen faces recurring blinding on a material it wasn't originally speced for, can't keep up with increased volume, or needs a different screening principle entirely (for example, moving from standard rotary to ultrasonic), that's a retrofit conversation rather than continued troubleshooting of a mismatch that maintenance alone won't fix.

Spare Parts, Maintenance, and Calibration

Mesh screens are the component most likely to need periodic attention or replacement — condition and mesh size should be checked against your current material as part of routine maintenance. Vibration motor components and deck seals are the other common wear items.
