Getting bulk material up to a silo inlet, a hopper feeding a process step, or an upper floor level is a routine requirement in almost every plant — and it's routinely solved badly. An inclined belt or screw conveyor can technically do the job, but it needs a long run of floor space to gain modest height, which is exactly the constraint most existing plants don't have to spare.

Why Inclined Conveying Isn't the Right Vertical Solution

Incline conveyors need horizontal run to gain height. A belt conveyor at a typical 20–30° incline needs roughly two to three metres of horizontal run for every metre of height gained. In a plant where floor space is already committed, that's often simply not available.

Retrofits are the hardest case. Adding vertical lift to an existing, already-built plant is where the floor space constraint bites hardest — there's no clean-sheet layout to work with, just whatever gaps exist between equipment already installed.

Multiple transfer points mean multiple failure and spillage points. Working around a floor space constraint with a series of shorter conveyors and transfer chutes multiplies the number of places material can spill, jam, or generate dust — solving one problem by creating several smaller ones.

Where the Bucket Elevator Fits

A bucket elevator lifts bulk material vertically — up to 20 metres on ENZAC's standard range — using buckets mounted on a belt or chain that scoop material at the base and discharge it at the head, in a fraction of the floor footprint an inclined conveyor would need for the same height gain. Many configurations also handle a short horizontal intake run before lifting, receiving material at floor level, conveying it briefly, then elevating it to the discharge point without intermediate transfers.

Capacity on the standard model range runs 1–15 m³/hr depending on bucket size — DY-2L (1.8L buckets, 1–5 m³/hr), DY-4L (4L buckets, 2–8 m³/hr), and DY-6L (6L buckets, 5–15 m³/hr) — with motor power from 0.75 to 7.5 kW and VFD speed control across the range. Buckets are available in ABS, stainless steel 304, or carbon steel, with frame construction in SS304 or carbon steel depending on your product's corrosion and hygiene requirements.

Because the system is fully enclosed, it's inherently dust-free — a meaningful advantage over open inclined conveying for fine or dusty materials — and gentle enough in its scooping and discharge action to avoid excessive degradation of free-flowing granules and powders.

Where a Bucket Elevator Isn't the Right Answer

Bucket elevators are built for free-flowing granules and powders, not sticky, cohesive, or fibrous materials that won't discharge cleanly from a bucket. And if your requirement is horizontal transfer with only modest elevation, a belt or screw conveyor is usually the simpler, lower-maintenance choice — a bucket elevator earns its cost specifically where floor space is tight and the height gain is significant.
